In most countries, candidates for the police force must have completed some formal education. Increasing numbers of people are joining the police force who possess tertiary education and in response to this many police forces have developed a "fast-track" scheme whereby those with university degrees spend 2-3 years as a police constable before receiving promotion to higher ranks, such as sergeants, inspectors etc.
After completing a certain period of service, officers may also apply for specialist positions, such as detective, police dog handler, mounted police officer, motorcycle officer, water police officer, or firearms officer.
In some countries such as in Singapore, police ranks may also be beefed up through conscription, similar to national service in the military. Qualifications may thus be relaxed or enhanced depending on the target mix of conscripts. In Singapore, for example, conscripts face tougher physical requirements in areas such as eyesight, but are less stringent with minimum academic qualification requirements. Some police officers also join as volunteers, who again may do so via differing qualification requirements.
In addition to any formal qualifications required,i feel that a potential police officers should have a genuine interest in working with the public and possess an inquiring mind.

A video was shown to us during my English lesson. It was mainly about choice of career and national education .The title of the video is "HEARTWARE." This video had shown us that most of the Singaporeans would like to go abroad to study or to work. I think they want to work overseas mainly because they wanted a new environment to study and work. For my opinion, i feel that it is alright to study or work overseas but they have to remember that they belong to Singapore and have a home here. And at the end of the day come back to Singapore and serve the nation with what they have learn from other country.
i always wanted to be a lawyer or a doctor from a small age. it is mainly because my parents always told me to get a job like those as it is usually highly paid. But, as time goes, i noitce that it is quite impossible to get the job. Since my results for my study is are getting worst n worst. I can't even meet the least expectation of a lawyer or a doctor.
I soon forget about getting 1 of those. i have not had an ambition for about 2 years until a few months ago, a fire broke out behind my block at the garbage collecting place. I noticed the fire when i went to my kitchen to wash my hands and saw thick smoke raising from below. I quickly rushed down my block and saw the building was burning. Fire covered the whole place and everybody have to stand a few metres away from it. Suddenly, 2 fire trucks and 4 police car came into the neighborhood from all directions! The fireman got out of the truck and brought the fire hose to the nearest fire hydrant n started blasting the water at the building while the policemen started controlling the traffic and the distance we are standing. It all happened in less than 5 minutes! "Wow! i can see the real live demo of the fireman and the policemen at work!" i thought. After the fire was put out, everyone around there cheered for them. They were so awe-inspiring! From that day on, i was inspired by them and when i go up i want to be apart of them. XD
